CHOCOLATE'S LAND • 2020
DIRECTOR: Bruna Michelin
COUNTRY: Brazil
RUNTIME: '1
SYNOPSIS: Chocolate's Land is a experimental short film, a spec commercial, which uses foodporn images of chocolate and chocolate desserts as visual metaphors to illustrate some of the stereotypes used to define Brazil as a culture. Soccer, carnival, sexualization, party and exotic landscapes are represented by brigadeiros, brazilian dessert, pies, chocolate truffles and syrups.
This Brazil-cake makes your mouth water, but is filled with hidden layers of displeasure.
Chocolate, in turn, is chosen for being and ingredient derived from cocoa, a fruit kidnapped from Latin America, once used as medicine or money, that in Brazil, the 7th largest producer in the world, has its production associated with precarious working conditions and slavery. Cocoa in Chocolate's Land is a symbol of hierarchical relations, pillars in the construction of this stereotyped look that Brazilians have of themselves.
